I have found myself stuck in Guyana, South America, down on funds, out of luck and desperately trying to scrape together enough cash to carry on with my research.

I am a primate conservationist - studying the monkeys of Guyana and the impact of habitat destruction and fragmentation caused by human activities. Guyana's formerly pristine rainforests are under increasingly severe threat from commercial logging, the local use of forest products, hunting and the recent development of a trans-international road which links the country's forested interior with Brazillian trading routes opening up the hinterland to further exploitation.

Previous research in this area is limited, the conservation status of Guyana's primates remains unassessed and no conservation management plan currently exists to protect the primates despite the species known vulnerability to habitat loss and degradation.

My research project aims to assess the impacts of these anthropogenic activities and the relative threats that each pose to the country's primate species. Furthermore the study will provide baseline data so that future surveys can monitor the long-term impacts of such pressures and form the basis of resource management initiatives to safeguard these creatures from endangerment before it is too late.

Please help me to continue my research if you can spare one pound or fifty - all donations gladly and gratefully received!
